Weeping Myall
Giclee Print on Paper
Size: 470 x630 mm
Edition of 150
This is one of three paintings commissioned by a previous owner of Butterbone Stud Park, west of Warren in northern NSW. The intention was that each of her children would ultimately own one. Weeping Myall depicts a paddock that was named Jackson's, through which the front drive of the property passes. It was sketched under a perfect blue, cloudless sky, but, to add interest to the scene, I created my own weather. I am glad that I did, for living with a reproduction of the painting in my living room, I become fonder each day of the colour balances used in the sky, and their reflection in the terrestrial vegetation.
The cattle are stud shorthorns, and originally two were white, just as I had sketched them on site. However I was sharply rebuked and informed that white, in shorthorn cattle, was a disease and not a characteristic to be advertised; so they rapidly became brindle, with shadows cast by the tree above!
A late addition was the emu; I am well known for paintings of birds and it was abundantly evident that birds were absent in this landscape. So, as requested, I added a "Bush Chook" to draw the eye further into the landscape and to give it ornithological credentials.
Incidentally, I believe that it was Peter Ustinov who, when once introduced as an "orthinologist", merely demurred, claiming to be no more than a "simple word botcher"!
All paintings sold without stretching and framing and are delivered rolled in a tube. Stretching and framing are available upon request, please contact us to discuss price and delivery.
